At DFI, we take pride in fostering a culture of kindness and empathy in the workplace, and a powerful example of this was witnessed during the peak of Hong Kong’s COVID outbreak in 2022. During the challenging time, Mannings Hong Kong faced severe short-of-hands, forcing the temporary closure of 53 stores across the city. With many team members unable to report to work due to illness, Mannings stepped up to support both team members and their families by distributing essential care packs with medicine, vitamins, and disinfectants. However, delivering these packs to remote areas like Cheung Chau, an outlying island reachable only by ferry, posed significant logistical hurdles.
This was when Steven Fok, one of our Assistant Store Managers entered the picture. Despite the risks, he volunteered to deliver care packs to two affected team members in Cheung Chau during his personal leave, making sure they received the much-needed supplies. Steven’s selflessness and dedication not only brought care and comfort during a tough time, but also inspired hope within the team.
Good deeds return in unexpected ways. Later, Steven suffered a tragic accident and fell into a month-long coma. When he regained consciousness, he was deeply moved by the steadfast support of his team members. Store Manager Ming Yau and Area Manager Irene Dai visited him regularly and covered his shifts, while his wife, Yue Wong, was given flexible work hours to care for him.
His colleagues continued to show exceptional care even as he returned home, ensuring a smooth transition back to work as he regained his strength. The compassion Steven received from Mannings’ team members made him feel truly valued, cementing deep bonds within the team.
Steven’s story highlights the power of mutual support. His dedication to his team and the cycle of kindness that followed embodies our core value of caring passionately.
