In addition to nurturing a caring workplace, we also extend our warmth and compassion to every member of our community. From October to November 2022, Haizhu District, Guangzhou saw its most severe pandemic outbreak, causing widespread panic. In response, the local government implemented strict measures, including lockdowns, transportation halts, and closure of shopping facilities, leaving residents with limited access to essential goods.
Amid the chaos, Store Manager Zhimei Liang and Store Assistant Chunling Liang of the 7-Eleven store at Roman Home emerged as pillars of strength for the community. Running the only store still operating in the area, the two team members bravely navigated various obstacles to ensure continued supply of daily necessities to nearby residents. For Chunling, the situation was particularly difficult as she soon faced potential quarantine at her residence. Determined to help, she decided to stay in the store, providing continuous support to the community. Zhimei, a devoted mother of a six-month-old baby, was no less resilient. To support Chunling, she relocated multiple times to remain close to the store and ensure its smooth operations and stayed in the store to ride the tide.
Further to personal hardships, Zhimei and Chunling faced logistical challenges due to transportation restrictions. Noticing that the distribution centre would not be able to deliver orders to the store, they rode bicycles to gather goods from other closed stores and walked long distances to deliver supplies directly to customers trapped in their homes.
Their efforts left an indelible mark on the community. After the pandemic, many customers visited the store not only to shop but also to express their gratitude for Zhimei and Chunling, who had become symbols of resilience and service. Their actions not only bolstered our brand reputation, it also showcased our unwavering commitment to social responsibility in times of hardships and adversity.
