The situation of the underprivileged in Hong Kong has worsened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the battle against poverty has been harder than ever. Wellcome has always been dedicated to supporting those in need during difficult times. We are thrilled to announce a 365 days “Rice Donation Charity Programme” across Hong Kong and Macau. To kick off the programme, we have announced to donate HKD$3,000,000 to Foodlink.

Starting from today, Wellcome will donate HK$0.5 per kilogram sold from our full range of Yu Pin King rice and target to raise HKD$5,000,000 to help those in need. The programme is applicable in all Wellcome Supermarkets, selected Marketplace, 7-Eleven in Hong Kong as well as San Miu Supermarket in Macau. Wellcome will use the proceeds to purchase Yu Pin King rice at cost, which will provide over 16 million bowls of rice for Foodlink to distribute to feed those in need.

At Wellcome, supporting our community is part of our DNA. We believe that small actions could introduce massive changes to society, and collective efforts can lead to even greater impacts. Through this programme, Wellcome hopes to inspire our customers to contribute to society together. Foodlink is a charitable organisation that provides hot, delicious and nutritious meals to the elderlies, the homeless and the low- income families.

Details Regarding the Rice Donation Charity Programme

  1. In the one-year period, for every kilogram of Yu Pin King rice sold, HKD$0.5 will be donated to Foodlink. It is applicable to the full range of 12 products of Yu Pin King rice

  2. "Double Up Day", where the donations will increase from HKD$0.5 to HKD$1 for each kilogram of Yu Ping King rice sold on that day, will happen on the first day of every month.

  3.  “Festive Feast Up” - We have picked three important Chinese festivals - Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival and Winter Solstice - where families traditionally reunite for family meals, to double up our donations from HKD$0.5 to HKD$1 per kilogram of Yu Pin King rice sold. Additionally, we will also pick a selection of premium food from the Yu Pin King range where we will donate one for every purchase a customer makes - You Buy One We Donate One.

To take up a leading role, Wellcome will donate HKD$3,000,000 to Foodlink. Having served Hong Kong for decades, we will continue to support the community in Hong Kong, fight the pandemic together, and help those in need against the adversities.

Vanessa Hwang, founder of Foodlink, said: “ Poverty rate rises to record high in Hong Kong. As a food support charity, our work has been seriously affected as food donation has dropped 70% during the pandemic. We are very happy to see Wellcome launch the “Rice Donation Charity Programme” to send our warmest regards to the needy. Wellcome has been a long term partner with Foodlink. We are very grateful to Wellcome’s generous ongoing support in helping the needy.”

The full range of Yu Pin King’s quality rice is directly imported from Thailand. The Thai Hom Mali Jasmine rice has also been voted as the best-tasting rice in the 12th World Rice Conference. This rice is available at Wellcome, selected Marketplace, 7-Eleven and Sun Miu Supermarket in Macau, exclusively.
